Anne’s love for handcrafted Amish products began back in 1999 when she wanted a custom bed. She came up with the idea to look into an Amish handcrafted bed because she knew that Amish products were very high quality. Thus, Anne and her husband, Dan, drove to western Wisconsin to find an Amish craftsman. They lucked out when they flagged down an Amish family in their buggy who directed them to a kind Amish man named John to make their bed for them. John sketched out Anne and Dan’s visions and ideas. He made the bed by hand from wood and tools without electricity. Once the bed was done the quality was outstanding and it was affordable.
This custom bed began a network of connections with other Amish families in Wisconsin. Their first products included mantle clocks, a tv tray and a unity candle.
Soon Anne found herself with connections to Amish families who make cookie cutters, candy, raw and local honey, cutting boards, toy trains, jams, lazy susans, and so many more things. Anne decided to start her own business, Anne’s Mercantile, to share her love for Amish handcrafted products.
Now, Anne loves supporting Amish families and has incorporated many Amish products into her home and lifestyle. When you buy from Anne’s Mercantile you will feel good about buying local, supporting a small business and Amish communities
